Sheriff Timothy G. Miller of The Miami County Indiana Sheriff’s Office and Jail today announced the installation of Telmate Tablets, a cutting-edge inmate technology provided by Telmate, a leader in the world of corrections technology, based in San Francisco, CA. Telmate currently provides the facility’s phone and video visitation system.

Telmate Tablets are wireless access points to Telmate’s suite of inmate software services that include messaging, photo sharing, approved entertainment, paperless requests and grievances, ebooks, commissary ordering, account management and more. Utilizing this innovative technology inmates have new ways to connect with friends and family, access content, occupy their time and manage their account. At the same time, the facility gains operational efficiencies and economical advantages through the systems’ automation of facility processes like inmate grievances and requests, as well as through the systems’ Telmate Investigator Tools, which turn data into actionable, crimesolving intelligence.

The ultra-secure Telmate Tablet solution features corrections-grade devices, hotspots, and security servers and requires inmates to have a unique PIN for access.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Jail Facility is located in Peru, Indiana and provides detention areas for up to 246 pretrial detainees and convicted inmates for relatively minor crimes. The facility was designed to safely and securely serve the present and future needs of local county law enforcement.

“This is by far the most advanced tablet technology we have seen in the corrections setting,” said Sheriff Miller. “The Telmate Tablet gives us a powerful behavior modification tool that results in better behaved inmates, and their ability to connect with loved ones also aids in successful reentry.” Sheriff Miller stated there is no cost to the taxpayers of Miami County as the system is totally funded by Telmate.

Facility staff have 24/7/365 web access and control of the Telmate Tablets and software services through a web-based admin interface called Telmate Command. Jail staff can log into the Telmate system using any web-enabled device including personal computers, tablets and smartphones.

The Telmate Tablets and suite of software services are currently deployed in over 35 facilities nationwide, generating over 3 million minutes of monthly usage. For more information about the Telmate Tablet, please visit https://www.telmate.com/tablet.
