Parents Behind Bars: Children of Incarcerated Family Members
A new toolkit has been created toolkit for children and families at-risk, specifically those with an incarcerated parent. The toolkit, entitled Parents Behind Bars: Children of Incarcerated Family Members, was developed through a subcommittee of the Idaho Criminal Justice Commission tasked with researching the number of Idaho children who may have an incarcerated parent.
The toolkit provides tips for parents and caregivers, resources, information about Idaho’s criminal justice system, questions that children will frequently ask and links to helpful information which will enhance an educator or caregivers ability to support a child in the midst of crisis. The toolkit is a PDF document (Adobe Acrobat) and should be viewable on most computers.
Why is Telmate Involved
As an inmate phone provider, we interact with parents and caregivers who have a loved one behind bars every day. In our opinion, this toolkit provides some very well thought out answers to some of the most difficult questions a child can ask an adult.
